Bar Vasa moving to Tontine Street?

Feb232009

Ah no they're running the bar at the #Quarterhouse

Heard a rumour that Bar Vasa were going to be opening a new place along Tontine Street soon, but now, they are going to be running the bar at the new Quarterhouse venue. I expect you have picked up this news somewhere else already, but just trying something new.

RE: Bar Vasa moving to Tontine Street?

Paul,

I responded on Twitter before reading the above linked post. Mmmmmm, I wonder if this is the start of a mini-empire. I remember years ago (early 1990's) when Panchos was really going well in Hythe and Jerry and Melvin (the owners) also opened up in Canterbury. It wasn't a great success and the original Panchos seemed to suffer for it. We'll see...

In the meantime we're looking forward to getting back down to Bar Vasa this Easter to work our way through the Meze and a couple of bottles of wine.

Regards,
Colin

I liked Pancho's

The owners were Scottish weren't they? That was our restaurant of choice at that time, since it closed nothing has survived for very long in that building.

Kai's, that's another one I miss, that was good, and that building is still empty. Did you ever go there? Right by The Red Lion.

RE: I liked Pancho's

Ahhh... The Scottish couple were I believe Mother and Son (lived in Dymchurch I think...) and took over from Jerry and Melvin. They kept it going quiet well for a while but it did slowly lose business and then packed up altogether. Such a shame, I really loved the atmosphere there, the food was good, the cocktails also and they did play plenty of Gipsy Kings... ;-)

Ooops, forgot to comment on Kai's... Only went there once (back in 1993 I think) but the food was good and quite unusual. One minute it was there then GONE!!!
